Overview
Jr. Company is a 3-month creative cycle for young dancers — a space built for children who are ready to train, create, and be part of something lasting. Dancers meet once a week on Saturdays with the same creative team behind the main Company’s Volumes.
Each cycle moves through three phases: technique, choreography, and film. It ends not with a recital, but with a live introduction followed by a short dance film — screened in the studio for family. Two pieces of choreography: a short live intro and a film piece.
Jr. Company bridges to the main Company at age 12 — building the discipline, artistry, and creative confidence a young dancer needs to step into that room when the time comes.
Cycles alternate between film productions (screened in the studio) and performance cycles (preparing for an external performance — Disneyland, regional festivals, etc.). Studio DMC provides the training and preparation either way.
How It Works
The Junior Company is a single creative cycle: 12 Saturdays, a live introduction, and a short film. Designed for ages 7–11 who are ready to experience what real training feels like — condensed, focused, and made for them.
It is a cycle, not a class.
Enrollment is for the full 3-month arc. There is a beginning (technique foundations), a middle (learning choreography), and an end (the screening). Families commit to the full journey — the dancers grow together across all twelve weeks, and the work builds week by week.
Twelve Saturdays from start to screening.
Rehearsals run weekly, same time, same place. The pace is deliberate — every session moves the work forward. Twelve working sessions, then the film is complete.
Technique first, then choreography, then filming.
Every session includes structured technical training. Dancers learn the film’s choreography, then a short live piece that introduces it. They leave the cycle with stronger facility and a film made by the same creative team behind the main Company’s Volumes, scaled for a younger cast.
No recital. No stage. No costume parade.
At the end of the cycle, dancers perform a short live introduction in the studio — then the lights shift and the film plays. Two pieces of choreography, one screening. The work speaks for itself.
An introduction to Company life.
The Junior Company mirrors the structure of the main Company — the same emphasis on rehearsal as process, the same vocabulary, the same care for how a piece is built. It is scaled to their age, not simplified in its standards. Designed to let a young dancer discover what training actually feels like — in a room that takes them seriously from the first count.
The work determines the outcome.
The film and live performance will reflect what each dancer brings into the room. If they practice between sessions, show up consistently, and give their best effort — that is what will appear on screen. If they do not, that will also show. The outcome belongs to the student. We provide the training, the choreography, the camera, and the screening. The work is theirs to do.
The Three Phases

Phase I — Technique
Month 1
Foundation and conditioning. Dancers build strength, alignment, and vocabulary — the building blocks of everything that follows.

Month 2
Taking technique into movement. Dancers learn original choreography, build ensemble awareness, and shape the piece together.

Headshot Session
One professional headshot session per cycle. Founder's camera, founder's lighting, founder's eye.
Dark, editorial, artistic — not school picture day. These are portraits that match the Studio DMC aesthetic. Parents would pay $100–200 for this anywhere else. Included.
Behind-the-Scenes Stills
A digital set of rehearsal photos pulled from film footage — candid moments from the creative process.
The camera is already rolling. These are the frames between the takes — the grit, the focus, the in-between. Delivered digitally at the end of the cycle.
Open Class Access
Extra training beyond scheduled Saturdays. Optional, not required.

The Screening
Dancers perform a short live introduction before the film screens.
A short film screening (approximately 10 minutes) for family at the end of the cycle.

Future Opportunities
Junior Company dancers may have opportunities to travel and perform beyond the studio. Studio DMC organizes travel and performance opportunities and prepares students as needed. All costs are funded by families. Studio DMC will help facilitate fundraising opportunities to offset costs.

These are not guaranteed, not included in tuition, and entirely optional. Studio DMC will help facilitate fundraising opportunities to offset costs for interested families.

Costumes
Studio DMC provides costumes for the film — on loan only. Each piece is an artifact from the Studio archive, not a costume-shop rental.
Costumes belong to Studio DMC and must be returned after filming. They will be worn again, in another Volume, by another artist.
Dancers provide their own under-costume garments: tan leotard, tights, black shorts, etc. — as specified per production.
Dancers provide their own shoes and personal dancewear.
